Voters United to Preserve Flower Mound are homeowners who have joined together to protect our quality of life. We formed our group to counter the political clout of those with development interests who favor unlimited development. We do not want Flower Mound to become just another concrete-covered suburb.

We united in 1996 to oppose amendments to the Master Plan that increased residential density or apartments. Increased housing density means overcrowded schools, more traffic on our congested roads, strained water and sewer systems, fewer trees and less open space. Increased residential density would make Flower Mound lose the charm that attracted many of us to our beautiful community.

We have successfully opposed several requests that would have allowed developers to build many more houses than allowed by our Master Plan. We believe our efforts have been a big plus for our community.

In recent years, we have had some success in countering the political clout of the scrape-and-build type of developers. However, we must remain vigilant. It only takes a majority vote on the Town Council to amend the Master Plan and dismantle the Town’s SMART Growth Management Plan.

Financial support for Voters United to Preserve Flower Mound comes from Flower Mound residents and is used for informational and educational materials that are distributed to our members and other Flower Mound residents throughout the year.

Our Goals for the year 2002:

1. Prevent amendments to the Master Plan that would increase housing density or apartments.

2. Support Flower Mound's SMART Growth Management Plan.

3. Promote an aggressive road improvement program.

4. Support Town Council candidates who will guide future development according to the wishes of the citizens they are elected to serve.
