What is Voters United to Preserve Flower Mound?
Voters United to Preserve Flower Mound are homeowners like you. We joined together in 1996 to protect our unique quality of life and to counter the financial and political clout of those with development interests, and most recently, the oil and gas drilling industry.

Just like developers, real estate professionals, and other groups organize to promote their interests, Flower Mound homeowners joined together to protect our interests. We do not want Flower Mound to become just another concrete-covered suburb.

Over the years, Voters United has been attacked, sued, and even imitated in attempts to mislead and confuse residents. Most recently, anonymous callers polled residents regarding their opinion of Voters United. Due to public complaints and newspaper coverage, these calls stopped. In most cases, citizens have seen through such actions and know that our organization has the best interests of Flower Mound at heart. These efforts have helped make Flower Mound a great place to live and raise a family. In fact, in 2003 CNN/Money Magazine named Flower Mound “The Best Place to Live in Texas and the Second Best Place to Live in the Western U.S.”

We have had some success in countering pressure from scrape-and-build type developers and others who do not want to be accountable to Flower Mound citizens. However, we must remain vigilant. We do not oppose drilling, but we want to minimize its negative impact on our community.

A super-majority vote (4 out of 5) can amend the Master Plan and dismantle the town’s popular SMARTGrowth Program.
Our super-majority requirement has been targeted for repeal!

Only 3 votes are needed to amend our drilling ordinance, which was created to protect our neighborhoods and schools.
Our drilling ordinance has been targeted for weakening!

As with SMARTGrowth and the Master Plan, development and drilling interests also target our drilling ordinance simply to maximize profits for an extremely small special interest group. These special interests have unsuccessfully sued the town, threatened to de-annex, and have hinted at future lawsuits if they do not get their way.

We are a 100% volunteer, grassroots organization with no membership dues. Financial support comes from local donations and is used for informational materials. By joining our private email list and forwarding any email address changes, you will get important updates on voting, the Master Plan, SMARTGrowth, and oil and gas drilling. Please be assured that we will never share your email address with anyone.
